"Be Like Aaron”
Aaron, the older brother of Moses,
recognized that the successes of others are to be celebrated.
Aaron was known to be, “Glad in his heart”-
able to rejoice wholeheartedly for Moses.
He felt only love for his brother's greatness and
this complete joy without jealousy earned him the priesthood.
As the High Priest he wore,
"The breastplate…on the heart."
The breastplate had written on it every name of
each tribe of the Jewish people.
Aaron's heart was able to feel the burdens and
pain of everyone.
His heart expanded to encompass the whole nation.
With this large heart Aaron prayed for and
did the holy service in the Tabernacle.
God can only exist in a place where the heart has been
emptied of arrogance and self-focus.
"Every man in whom is haughtiness of spirit,
the Holy One Blessed be He declares,
"I and he cannot both dwell in the world"
The Tabernacle was the ‘home’ for the Divine Presence and
Aaron, therefore, was the perfectly positioned
because of his lack of ego and arrogance
May we be like Aaron experiencing joy without jealousy and
understanding that we each have our own unique role, path,
challenges and purpose
to be used in positive and humble ways.
Shabbat shalom
